Afghanistan Vet Who Lost Both Legs Receives Smart Home From Gary Sinise

Gary Sinise is well-known for his work with veterans and, through his foundation, providing homes for those veterans and their families to help them get by more easily. Many of these veterans with smart homes are disabled, missing limbs, in wheelchairs, and more. Sinise truly goes above and beyond to give back to those who serve.

Sergeant 1st Class Caleb Brewer of Tucson, Arizona, is one of the many who have received a smart home personally from Gary Sinise. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2005 and was later deployed to Afghanistan. However, after stepping on an IED, he experienced life-threatening injuries and lost both of his legs as a result.

It wasn’t an easy time for Brewer. He also experienced serious infections, blood clots, and massive blood loss. He also experienced traumatic brain injury on top of it. But after just four months, he managed to make astounding progress in rehabilitation and learned how to walk again using prosthetic legs. He also developed a special workout room to aid his physical therapy and maintain consistent fitness.

Brewer now helps train disabled men and women who have a similar journey to his own. Word of what Brewer has been through and has accomplished reached Sinise, and boy, was Brewer in for a treat!
